On Sunday, March 28th Just about 40 children gathered in the gymnasium of the Hale YMCA to participate in a clinic focused on basketball skills and drills. NOW, Putnam Science Academy, and the Hale YMCA invited children ages 10 – 12 to work with Putnam Science Academy basketball coaches, teaching a variety of skills. NOW Wellness staff focused on what it means to have good sportsmanship, what it means to be a “team player” and team building. Pool noodles were utilized to create a socially distanced, fun, and fitness-oriented teamwork activity! NOW Wellness Leaders then taught a lesson about sugar consumption followed by a nutrition game called “Hot Seat!”. Players in the hot seat investigated a variety of different fruits and veggies and then challenged their teammates to guess which food they had in the hot seat by providing the team with clues and riddles about the food.
Throughout the year, NOW hosts a series of free youth sports & wellness clinics around the region. Coming up on Sunday, April 11th, NOW, PSA, and the Hale YMCA will host a basketball clinic for children ages 13 – 17. More clinics are planned for the spring and summer months.
